WHY DENTISTRY?

8.1 billion people in the world. 3.4 billion people employed. Tens of thousands of careers.

 So why teeth?

It is a universal experience to be asked: "What do you want to be in the future?"
For many, the obvious answers are lawyers or doctors. For me, it is a dentist.

You have probably only met 1/100000 children that say they want to "look at teeth" for a living. But for me, it was never just about teeth — it was about health, confidence, and the power of a smile. Dentistry combines science, precision, and compassion in a way no other career does, and that’s what drew me in.

The intertwining nature that dentistry has to other subjects is what truly surprised me. Art plays a heavy role in dentistry from sculpting composite fillings to shaping crowns and veneers. Alongside the influence of anatomy, as dentistry requires the exploration of the whole body — from the muscles that guide the jaw to the vessels that carry blood to the gums. Additionaly, the influence of engineering in dentistry can be seen in biomaterials that mimic enamel, implants that restore function, and 3D printing that shape precise restorations.

Dentistry goes far beyond just 'fixing teeth'. It is a career rooted in compassion. Every patient that sits on the chair brings more than a dental problem - they bring fear, worries, insecurities and hopes. The role of a dentist is to listen, reassure,  provide treatment that restores both health and self-esteem.

The heart of this profession is not just teeth, but improving lives.
